Mastic Beach – NYS has mailed out 144 letters to the addresses of the priorities shown here in yellow as the Blue Buffers program begins to move forward. This is a voluntary program, and letters to eligible owners were mailed last week to inform them that they are eligible for this buyout program and to invite them to apply or contact for more information.The application is live on the following website: bluebuffers.org and the current application deadline is April 30, 2026.NYS has scheduled two office hours to answer questions about the program, 2/10/26 and 2/26/26 from 2:30pm to 7:30pm at the Mastic Beach Branch of the Public Library; participants can register for an in-person or virtual meeting on either date.The program will not actively solicit applications from property owners outside of the Enhanced Buyout Area. However, requests for hardship exceptions must be submitted during the applicable community application period.This is the information I received from New York State that I am passing along in an effort to try and make sure those who may want to take advantage of the program get information.
